Canadian Timothy Chooi Awarded 1st Prize at Hannover’s Joseph Joachim Competition

Another Michael Hill laureate wins a top prize.  Canadian Timothy Chooi (our 2015 3rd prize winner and brother of Nikki, our 2013 1st prize winner) has just won top honours at the Joachim International Violin Competition in Hannover.

A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Ida Kavafian, and current post graduate student of Catherine Cho at The Juilliard School, Timothy is a former major prize winner at the Schadt and Michael Hill International Violin Competitions – and in August of this year was awarded the ‘Prix Yves Paternot’ Prize for the most outstanding young musician at this year’s Verbier Festival.

Open to international violinists aged between 16 to 27 who are ready to embark on an international career, Timothy will receive €50,000, the three year loan of a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, an international CD release – and a number of important international performance opportunities.
