Queenstown

An exhilarating event of fine music – weaving the region’s homegrown talent and New Zealand’s outstanding musicians.

The Wakatipu Music Festival was conceived to be a classical music festival that brought together New Zealand’s outstanding emerging artists and leading professional musicians, together with local performers, grassroots music initiatives and dedicated local and national educators.

The Festival comprised of three interconnecting components:

  1. Young Artists Showcase and Career Development for 12 leading NZ musicians (age 16-26) or any orchestra instrument, piano or voice (selected through national audition)
  2. Community Engagement workshops and performance showcase for Central Otago-based musicians, music teachers and ensembles
  3. Training Ground paid apprenticeship in Festival production for Central Otago-based early career practitioners
